Thanks for not forgetting the Kungsholm! While I never visited it, my Dad, who was in Midshipman’s School at Navy Pier during WWII as a law school grad straight from Detroit, walked over there whenever he could and talked about the shows all the time as I was growing up in Michigan in the 50′s and 60′s. I REALLY wished I had gone there in 1971 when I moved here since it closed soon after and for sure we will be visiting the obviously dedicated folks in Rolling Meadows. Thanks Again and I hope many of your viewers join us.
This brought back fond memories of the Kungsholm puppets which I saw in the late 40s & early 50s as a young boy in Chicago. I thought the show just faded away. I definitely will be going to Rolling Meadows to rekindle those memories.
I too have sweet fond memories of seeing “Kismet”.
I still have the program – however no date listed on it.
My mother took me to a Kungsholm production of TOSCA for my birthday. The thrill of seeing the puppet Tosca dive off the parapet will always remember stay with me! Dare I say, no live production has equalled that first experience.
When I was a girl, somewhere in the mid 1950′s, my godmother took me and my mom to lunch and to see a puppet performance of “Madama Butterfly” at the Kungsholm. I have since seen a live performance, but that old memory seems better somehow.
I went there for my birthday, in my early teens. I don’t remember the opera, but I do recall that two of the puppets were somewhat misaligned, and when the father was supposed to be hugging the daughter and patting her back, he ended up patting her tush! I loved it!
