Artist Matt Lamb

Chicago artist Matt Lamb’s success story is like no other. Long before he ever picked up a paintbrush, Lamb ran a profitable chain of funeral homes and lived the high life. But he gave up the business, kicked his alcohol habit and tried something he’d never done before — painting. That was more than 30 years ago. Now Matt Lamb has as many museums and studios as he once had funeral homes. Watch Chicago Tonight at 7:00 pm for the story.

Matt Lamb also created a global art project called “Umbrellas for Peace.” Children and adults from around the world paint and decorate umbrellas, designing them to represent their personal values of world peace. A parade of people carrying their umbrellas through the area follows. The project challenges everyone to be the person to present the world with peace.

On May 3, 2011, there was an Umbrellas for Peace parade in Chicago to inaugurate The Museum of Private Art Collections. Check out a slideshow of photos from the event below.
