“En Route” in Chicago

Our resident tour guide Geoffrey Baer discovers a whole new way to explore Chicago from a visiting troupe of Australians on Chicago Tonight at 7:00 pm.

From July 13 to August 12, Chicago Shakespeare Theater is producing a special edition of One Step at a Time Like This’ En Route. The Australian company has recreated the show for the streets of Chicago in its North American premiere. Audience members participate in the show with audio tracks and cell phones as they travel around downtown.

En Route is also produced in conjunction with Richard Jordan Productions, Ltd, and the Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture.

En Route provides an innovative way to see the City of Chicago as a unique form of theater,” said Dorothy Coyle, Executive Director, Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture. “It is the perfect centerpiece for Urban Excursions: Explore Chicago, our 2011 summer initiative showcasing hundreds of treks and other urban adventures downtown and throughout the neighborhoods.”

In addition to Chicago and Melbourne, the show has also been performed in Edinburgh. Watch a video clip from the Edinburgh version below.
