Gertrude Abercrombie: ‘Midwestern Surrealist’

Gertrude Abercrombie (1909-1977) was a visionary Chicago painter who created surreal and imaginative paintings. Her highly personal style had a strong impact on the next wave of Chicago artists. In her lifetime, she counted artists and jazz giants as close friends and admirers. These days she’s best remembered by art collectors and historians.
